Hi Adam

Thanks for all your efforts, it has been really appreciated. The absense of the logger will be very sad.

Re: Don't trust all SMA - SO239 adapters

I have heard many horror stories especially with the chinese rubbish off Ebay etc. Chromed connectors, not even silver or gold plated and inferior low quality insulater material. You get what you pay for, although in the case above it appears it was from a higher tier supplier?

Re: Icom IC-9700 Pre-release brochure

My expectation is the IC-9700 is priced around AUD$3200 - $3500. More than an IC-7300 but less than the IC-9100. Anything less will be a pleasant surprise. :D I expect it to be around that price, at least it will be a far superior radio to the IC-910H I owned which cost around that price. I cant wo...

Re: Aligning a Rotator

Rotators should always be aligned to true north as great circle maps and maps generally are always based on true north. Magnetic north slowly varies and from memory at my QTH True North is currently about 11.5 degrees west of north compared to magnetic north. Not hard to orientate with a compass. Yo...

Re: Wyong Field Day 2016 - Impressions

The flea market was about half compared to last year? . Cheers Tony err... the FM was much larger that last year. I was there at 7.30am and there were more cars parked there without gear for sale than there were with gear than last year. And the junk was indeed junk and there was much less than las...

Wyong Field Day 2016 - Impressions

I am not sure what others thought of the Wyong Field day but I was most disappointed. No Andrews, no Jaycar again, no manufacturers again. Numbers of amateurs who attended was dismal. The flea market was about half compared to last year? The parking was not planned. I am sorry to say but I, and ever...

Not sure who you were responding to Trent but here's what I think. VK2TS, you seem to have changed your mind in the last year. Earlier on this page you gave the excellent advice that all we needed was the correct attitude. I think we have the right attitude and will continue to play radio in the sp...

Re: RD and ILLW conflict

Really ? Light house is International ? Then why are you all using dipoles on 80M to work international lighthouses ? Why are you using IARU contest bands when there are bands that are designated non contest bands ? Why are you not running 30 17 15 12 and 10 where very few RD contestors would ever ...

I believe the 400watt limit has been useable since the WIA clarified this with the ACMA following closure of the last Channel 0 TV station some time ago.

Re: New LCD detail shows 50-54MHz for Advanced Licence

Hi Steve, Unfortunately most 6m yagis/verticals wont tune up to 52MHz unless they are low Q and a auto tuner only makes the radio happy. The US tech licence was rather like our old limited licence which was the advanced theory less the CW. I did my advanced about 30 years ago along with the CW so it...

Re: Triplexer with single feed line

I just looked up the insertion losses of some of these Triplexors and Diplexors and the figures look much lower than I would expect. Has anyone actually measured the losses x 2 (If there is one at either end) I am sure the additional connector loss alone would exceed the rated losses I googled? Mayb...

Re: Station Master repair

Unfortunately the grey conduit has a slightly larger bore than the orange so the fit will not be as good. It does not seem to last much longer than the orange under U/V in any case. Best solution is to use the orange conduit (prefarably new) and paint it with a long lasting UV resistant paint. Spra...

Re: Station Master repair

Beware using orange conduit as it is not UV resistant. It appears whoever mnanufactured these things originally wasnt aware or ignored that fact. Now thats In built limited life span using that stuff. It is designed to be buried and as such not receive any UV from the sun. I would replace it with gr...

Re: Why WSPR is so good

Hi Guys The thing that always intrigues me about WSPR is how does one actually operate when running WSPR as it would de-sense the hell out of your own SSB/CW station? I know it transmits for a period and receives for another peiod of time but you are unable to hear for that TX time. After being a sy...
