UTC clock calendar software

Post by VK5TM » Fri Sep 06, 2013 11:54 am

Does anybody have a favourite UTC clock/calendar/reminder program?

Back in my younger days, I could look at a clock and do the conversion in my head, no problem. But what's left of the grey cells these days don't seem to want to co-operate.

What I'm looking for is a small program that displays both UTC and local time and has a calendar/reminder where it will show date and time in both UTC and local.

Would this do? I used this one for a while myself when I needed it.

I assume you are running Windows?

If you're Win7, try this:

What o/s are you running?

Assuming Windows 7, then there are a few (free and existing) options;

You can add up to two time zones, and a simple mouse-over will reveal all three.
I have set my other clocks to USA west & east coasts.

W7 also has things called gadgers. One of them is a clock.

You can easily drag a few across onto your desktop.
In this example, one is local, the other is UTC.

Sorry Guys, yes running Win7 64 bit.

I have this one, which is good in that you can make it transparent (the background) and it stays on top of your programs.

Also have 4 of the Win7 gadgets clocks, but none of them show 24hr time and looking at some of the other add-ons, they are hideous looking.

The most important need is really the calendar/reminder function. Such that I can enter something say, for next weekend in UTC and it will also show what the local time would be.

Thanks for the replies so far.

PS I know I could set the computer time to UTC, but that would really confuse the XYL (she's confused enough now  )

You could try Meeting Plannerhttp://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/meeting.html
Add in a date & a time zone or 2 & find out what time relates somewhere else to your time zone.
I also run Thunderbird as my email client & have Fox Clocks installed which runs at the bottom. You can set several time zones.
I have local time, UTC, London time (it is different from UTC in daylight saving) then the West, Central & East Coast American time zones all running across the bottom of Thunderbird.

I use the Wclock World Time Utility available at http://www.di-mgt.com.au/wclock
It allows you to config as many clocks as you want and then display

The built in W7 one can do 3 time zones, display in 24 hour format.

Thanks for the replies so far everybody.

I think maybe I should refine this question somewhat.

I currently have four clocks on the desktop:- Local, Eastern (as in NSW), UTC & PT (USA). There are three in the taskbar:- Local, UTC and Eastern, plus a stand alone program as mentioned before.
So, I am sorted for clocks.

The second part I am looking for is, I guess, basically an electronic diary with a special feature or two:- I would like to be able to make an entry into the 'Diary',( say in a couple of days from now ) with the time entered as UTC. The 'Diary' would show both the entered time in UTC plus convert and display that time in local time.

It should also have the reverse capability, ie enter local time and convert and display UTC (the ability to simultaneously convert to multiple time-zones would be nice, but not necessary at this stage).

This 'Diary' should run on my PC and give both audible and visual reminders.

There was a program with features very similar to this back in W98 days, but I can't track it down.

If push comes to shove, it looks like I may have to brush up on some programming skills and write it myself (although I'd rather not, I have enough to do now).
