Re: Old ATV Gear

Well, here's the EME79(B) notes.

Lawks-a-lordy, is it really 16 years since this came out...

Sorry, I don't have any of the others.

Re: Looking for tolerant low signal digital mode

Peter,

Perhaps you could try running 30 second periods, instead of the full (standard) 1 minute periods?

This might lessen the impact of a stray rock or two.

Re: Fiberglass Pole - Where to Find ?

Brian, I'm not sure, but reading your post leads me to think you want the whole length of the mast to be non-conducting. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) This really isn't necessary. You only need enough to clear the elements, with a bit extra for safety. So, for a 2m Yagi, 1 to 1.2 metres of fibre...

Phil,

How big a piece do you need?

I have some from a sample pack from Rogers...

(I assume you've tried getting a sample from them - assuming they still give them out, of course...)

Re: Equipment for portable use

A lot of things have changed in 4 years. My guess is there are some better alternatives around now. 4 years on, and my Honda is still going strong. :D But for a FT817 sans external amplifier, how could you say no to the benefits in simplicity that a solar panel and a little storage battery would br...

Re: AM17 LINEAR AMPS

Link no longer works does anyone have Ian's email or a copy of the above notes? Ian's email is shown on his Op Info in the VK Logger (and it's correct). Some time back ago I scanned my copy of the AM17 handbook into a PDF. I can either put it up here for download, or send it direct, if it would be ...

Re: How sociable are 6 and 2m?

G'day Nev. If you're hoping to hear 2m SSB signals, you'd be better off putting up a small (say three or five element) Yagi, horizontally polarised. A three-element Yagi can be knocked up easily with a bit of PVC conduit and some thin aluminium tube, or even heavy-duty copper wire. Making a decision...

"Dad jokes"???

Pffftttttttt...

It's called a pun, Lou; a PUN.

Yes, I'm looking forward to being the first beneficiary of a Federally-funded Pun Buy-back Scheme.

Be a great way to make a few bucks, to invest in a new 10 GHz transverter - if only the Federal Government would introduce a Gunn Buy-back Scheme.

Re: 23cm txvr and VK5 Beacons

Any news on the VF beacon? I had a chat with Mark VK5AVQ on the weekend about the VK5VF 23cm beacon. From my side, it was to reassure Mark how keen many of us were to see a signal from it. Really REALLY keen. It remains a work in progress, apparently, mainly due to the difficulties in acc...

The photos are of my view of the moon raise and moon set. Pass the trees is open land. Would it be worth trying eme on 2m? I am located in woomera. I'd suggest you download a copy of the latest version of Doug's, VK3UM, EME Planner. He's added a rather dandy new function called "Monthly Data", whic...

Re: SMA Connectors with Circlips @ 5.8 GHz

G'day Adam. I do have a few of these, which I obtained from Alan VK3XPD about 15 years ago. I have about 6 left unused from a packet of 20 or so, IIRC. They weren't/aren't cheap and nasty, so the use of the circlip doesn't necessarily signify that "quality". Could just be coincidental... :J They are...

Re: Aurora in the southern states

Both VK7RAE and VK7RST 2 metre beacons were audible here this afternoon, via Aurora. Both between 54 to 55 in RS, but sounding nothing like what they do when direct - more like pulsed white noise. VK5PJ was also heard calling CQ on 144.100 about 1 hour ago, at 534 (well, that's how I spotted him on ...

Re: VK3RRU GPS locked

Hi Peter, It's certainly fairly constant here (I'm 388 km away); fairly flat conditions tonight but sitting at 519 pretty much all the time. My home 2 metre rig isn't GPS locked, so I can't comment on the frequency accuracy at the moment. Mind you, the readout says 144.4380, and the note sounds pret...

That's a broad group of questions, Pat. The most likely mode will be JT65B. CW is possible, but I'd suggest there are more stations running JT65B at the moment than CW. Or USB... I've been listening on 144.135 since I saw your post, 3 minutes ago, and haven't seen any signals here. But signals betwe...

Does anyone know what issue of DUBUS had the article on the aforementioned 60w amp ? Or, any information on another construction article using this device ? Thanks, Hugh VA3TO Answer type B: Hugh, it's in Edition 1, 2015. The article is by Charlie Suckling, G3WDG. Drop him an email. 73, Barry VK3BJM
