Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

Hi all, it's done: AirScout V1.1.0.0 is now available for download. Please see http://www.airscout.eu. New plane feeds included as well as some other new features. As in previous versions users must activate the plane feed manually and must agree with the disclaimer on first run. It seems that the n...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

All seems to be working here fine - except the display seems to be about 1 minute behind FR24. Checked it here even with planes flying over Australia, there is no difference in plane position between FR24, Planefinder and AirScout. Please verify that your PC clock is synchronized. AirScout is calcu...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

Hi Peter, maybe this is associated with requesting plane data with wrong co-ordinates of the rectangle (MinLat > MaxLat, as you've decribed before). Try to regain an IP address by cutting off your Internet provider connection for a moment. I was able to keep the software running for hours without an...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

Hi Peter,

Random feed generates fake planes for testing purposes only, don't care about them.
Please swap MinLat and MaxLat to fulfill MaxLat > MinLat (including sign, not absolute value). You should see planes from the web feed then.

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

Hi guys, if someone wants to join the testing community: please download the latest BETA version of AirScout by following this hidden link: http://www.airscout.eu/downloads/AirScout_V1_0_9_9.zip. The new package is using an alternative plane feed. There is only few experience about the plane coverag...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

Well I have been using Airscout on my desktop computer in the shack for some time now, but now I want to use it on a netbook and I am having some issues. It seems that the graphic for the program is too large (vertically) for the netbook display and I cannot find any way to scroll down the screen t...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

I'm certainly looking forward to playing with this, particularly with regards to the more extreme contacts possible from my QTH. Three spring immediately to mind; to VK5ZPG in Quorn SA, to VK2ZT in Medowie, and to VK2XN near Narrabri. AirScout shows the unlikelyhood of contacts at 144 MHz over thes...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

Frank, Is there any chance it might be possible to work in an option to show aircraft altitude in feet or metres, in a future release? It would make it just that little bit easier to compare the AirScout screen to my Basestation ADS-B screen, and feet is still the international unit of measurement ...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

G'day, y'all. Not sure why, but the programme didn't immediately display aircraft. After loading a couple of different callsigns and hitting the play button 3 or 4 times (and turning the programme on and off... :P ), with no go, I was getting a little worried. Then, after reloading the station deta...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

Yes, they are. Simply copy them over to [AirScout program directory]\ElevationData\SRTM3 73 de Frank, DL2ALF Thanks Frank, and Alan. My next question, now that "I've done that" - and still not getting a happy ending... The files I have were all ordered in folders, with names designated by latitude ...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

While on the subject of the SRTM3 files, the program also has a nice little feature of being able to plot your radio horizon for a given antenna height. I've found this really useful while looking for a new house recently. Obviously Radio Mobile will give you more detail, but AirScout makes it a qu...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

2) You need to enter maps into the SRTM3 folder.......now before you go crazy downing all the files (over 2GB in size) go to this site: http://dds.cr.usgs.gov/srtm/version2_1/SRTM3/Australia/ and look for the files that are applicable to your location. Once you've worked out the file naming convent...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

Hi Adam, I try to help as much as I can, so don't hesitate to post your questions here. The elevation calculation has changed a little bit form 0.9.9.4 to 0.9.9.5. As you can choose different DIgital Elevation Models (DEMs) in AirScout, different elevation values for any single point on the Earth su...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

Hello, have started playing in earnest with airscout to see what might be possible from my home station. One thing has jumped out at me as far as easy mistakes to make, 6 digit maiden head locators are not accurate enough in a lot of cases where that station is in hilly terrain. I had selected vk2x...

Re: AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

Hi Arie, the described behavoir is typical for an obstructed view and is easy to explain. The "hot path" is the result of a mutual, unobstructed view to an aircraft. Any obstruction on the way will narrow the "hot path". The obstruction is calculated for each waypoint of the propagation path as: gro...

Jayson, a few words on the colour code of the AC: pink: AC is near the "hot path" and on a sufficient altitude (higher than the calculated minimum at the crossing point/nearest point) red: AC is heading towards the "hot path" and has sufficient altitude orange: AC is near/heading towards the "hot pa...
