Re: Repeater Controllers

G'day Alan,

VK7RVP has a Pi based node on it, and if I had IP at the repeater site, the Pi could become the controller. Its running the VKLink system. http://www.vklink.com.au/

Best place to buy SMD capacitors

Hi all,

Wheres the go-to place in Aus to get decent quality SMD capacitors in small quantities without paying silly prices?

Thanks,
Dion.

Re: Rotator recommendation

Have you inspected the brake in there? Is the mast clamped tight into the top? My KR400 controlled the 2m array with no problems, and when I removed the rotator controller to use for another job the antenna didn't move..

Re: IC-208h won't power on anymore

The link between the head and body appears to be serial, so don't know how to diagnose if the signal to turn on is getting to the body successfully. Should I be able to hook a computer serial port up to the data in/out ports on the head and open it like a normal serial port and read what's coming o...

Re: IC-208h won't power on anymore

The other clue was "The CPU in the base is getting fed 5V" This means that the reg and everything upstream back to the power socket is good, including the inductors L60, L61, L62 and L63. Not much else between the power socket and the umbilical cord socket apart from R513.

Re: IC-208h won't power on anymore

Dion, I'm interested on what guided you to R513? Was it that you recognised it as a fuse? Had a look at the schematic, traced it back to the power supply input. Had a look at the other components and decided that the most likely to fail would be the 1R resistor. Lets assume that the HV line got gro...

Re: IC-208h won't power on anymore

I had a search for the correct part you need, but I cant find it at the moment.. Its similar to whats pictured below.. You just need to get some of this and put it back into R513.

Re: IC-208h won't power on anymore

^ what he said.. The 1R resistor has gone high resistance, its saved the PCB traces.. I wouldn't replace it with anything else other than a 1R resistor. Just typed all that to meet the 30 character limit.

Re: IC-208h won't power on anymore

Whats R513 doing? Whats its resistance? Whats the volts drop across it with the head connected?

Put a scanning receiver on there that listens for other beacons, and when the band opens have it turn the beacon transmitter on for a period of time..

Point your beams south to VK7 and get on 53.800 and 146.625MHz repeaters, I'll talk to you.

With a Syba sound fob? If so interfacing is quite straight forward..

Is this to connect to a Pi for a VK Link node?

Re: Station Master repair

To get the match a bit better on 10m, you can make another tap on the coil similar to what you use to feed it with, and use it to shorten the coil. Juggle element length, top tap point and feed tap point and you can achieve a near perfect match. Something like this http://www.vklogger.com/forum/view...

Re: How big a change is needed to stop the apathy ?

I second VK3PCW's reasoning as its my position at the moment to a large extent. Been licensed for a couple of years, have a mobile FM rig in the car, and looking for my first HF radio. Most of the options that suit me are 6M and above. Would be keen to have a crack on the field days, but don't want...

Re: VK5RSC 23cm On Air test

I just found a build photo of the repeater and it looks like you have used RG142 or RG400 on the duplexed antenna port, so my previous post is irrelevant..

Re: VK5RSC 23cm On Air test - HELP?

The cable being used is RF-240 for all internal runs to the Duplexer from the radio. I think therein lies part of your problem. Its a bad idea to use dual foil/braid shield coax in duplex installations.. To quote Repeater Builder.. "Cabling: Double-shielded silver-plated coax is the best thing to u...
