Problem with Google Earth extracting Logger data.

Post by VK2DVZ » Fri Oct 15, 2010 6:54 am

Hi,

REFERENCE: Google Earth and Plane Plotter

Is anyone else having problems with GE extracting the data from the logger site (?), so that it can be used in conjunction with PP?

I find that Field Sites and TV Beacons work....nothing else does. ..makes it a bit useless trying to use Plane Plotter if you don't have be line from your QTH to the station of interest

I tried on another computer - no different.

I made sure by reloading the latest GE - no different either.

I reloaded the original kml file from the vk3hz site - it fails also.

Any suggestions?

Hi Ross.

I'll suggest this as it tricked me when I installed Plane Plotter recently - after carefully following all of Dave's instructions, Plane Plotter still wasn't streaming data out to GE. After a fair bit of hair-pulling, I noticed the "Green Dot" button at the left hand side of the toolbar: the "Start" button. Clicking it started everything going. If there is a manual for PP, I hadn't read it, because I was following Dave's instructions. Dave's instructions don't mention it...

Fingers crossed it might be this simple!

Hi Barry,

Plane plotter is streaming data to Google Earth OK.

My problem is that the QTHs data is not found by Google Earth, except for "Field sites and TV beacons" . All others fail to be found.

Without the radial lines centered on my QTH being available, PP becomes very restricted as a 'forecast tool'.

Mark, VK2AMS also told me he was having the same problem.

Beats me....

I'll have a look ...

Yes, there does seem to be a problem with RSD communicating with Adam's database.

I'll investigate further.

Dave

Looks like the RSD server has been locked out of the Logger's server for some reason.
Perhaps the ISP has been having a spring clean of the firewall settings - you know, keep deleting exceptions until someone squeals

Anyway, Adam is O/S at the moment, so we'll have to wait for his return next week before we can sort it out.

Regards,
Dave.

Hi David,

Thanks for checking and the info provided - much appreciated.

I will use the 'rule' on GE to draw the line of interest, until it is sorted.

In note that the RSD sever is again working. Thank you for the fix.

Yes RSD is working again.

It was MY ISP that messed up the Firewall settings :x . There is an outgoing Firewall on the RSD server, for some unfathomable reason.
Unfortunately, I led Adam's support guys on a bit of a wild goose chase, thinking that it was at his end and related to the couple of glitches recently with the Logger

Dave.

Not an unreasonable assumption Dave, give the recent VK Logger outages!

Glad to see it's all resolved. :D
